Setup Okta Multifactor Authentication

Overview:

Okta is a cloud-based identity and access management service used by the City of Hayward to connect users with applications in a safe way. Some applications that require the following setup include Cisco AnyConnect (VPN), Laserfiche and we'll be adding more!

Instructions:

You will be prompted to setup Okta multifactor authentication if you have not set it up before.

To begin setup, go to https://myaccess.hayward-ca.gov/. 

  1. Type in your full City of Hayward email address in the Username field if it is not already prepopulated. Select Next.

     
  2. Type in your password (same as your City computer login). Select Verify.

     
  3. Click Set up under the 'Okta Verify' section.
    Note: If you are trying to setup Okta Verify because of the SMS notice and are not receiving the screen below, please reach out to TechTeam for assistance.

     
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions. Detailed instructions are available at this link: Okta Verify Authenticator App Instructions
  5. After setting up your different methods, you will be prompted to provide a secondary email to recover your account. This one is optional and you may choose Skip profile if you do not wish to provide a non-City email address. If you do choose to provide one, select Finish.
  6. Once the methods are setup, you should be allowed into the application you were trying to access. In some cases, you may need to re-sign in and authenticate.
