Microsoft Updating Multi-Factor Authentications (MFA) Methods

Overview:

Multifactor authentication is a way to keep your accounts more secure than just your password alone. Below are directions for updating your mulitfactor authentication options with Microsoft.

NOTE: If you have received a new device and no longer have access to the old device, you must contact TechTeam to assist you with the MFA process as we need disassociate your old device on our end. We can be reached at TechTeam@hayward-ca.gov or at 510-293-7111.

Instructions:

  1. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/ and sign in with your full City of Hayward email and password, if prompted. You may also need to authenticate your sign-in with the current method you have setup between this step and the next.
  2. Once you're in, click on Security info on the left hand navigation pane.


     
  3. Once you're in, you'll see the screen below with different options. Scroll down to the instruction set that you are looking to do.

Add Another Authentication Method

  1. Select +Add method.
  2. Use the drop down in the box that will appear to choose a different authentication method.

     
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to get your selected choice setup.
  4. When finished, you will see the alternative methods, examples below.

     

Change Default Sign-in Method
These are the instructions to change your default sign in method. For example, you currently use the Authenticator app, but would rather receive a text message or vise versa.

1. In the Default sign-in method section, select Change.

2. Click the arrow drop down and select your preferred method.

3. Once you've chosen the method you like, select the Confirm button to confirm and update.


4.  You will see the default method has changed next to the Change button that you used in step 1.

Delete an Authentication Method

  1. Locate the authentication method that you no longer want and select the Delete button within that line section.
  2. Confirm that you would like to delete the method with the OK button and it will disappear from you list.

Change The Information on an Authentication Method

Please use this step if you still have access to a device that is already configured and you would like to move to a new device or to update the information.

Depending on your methods the setup changes, however just select the Change button next to the line item you want to update and follow the on-screen instructions.
